While the Fuente line has a proven track record of years of high qualityand well priced cigars, when they specifically call the Don Carlosportion of their portfolio the "Pride of the Fuente Family' you cannothelp but stop and take a closer look. While the Don Carlos name has had abit of a history - originally released in 1976 but taken off the marketwhen the Fuentes lost everything to the Sandinista in Nicaragua in thelate 1970's - the brand found reemergence in 1986 utilizing a specialcrop from 1984. From the mid 80's until the late 90's - the Don Carlosline was only available in two vitolas or sizes - the Robusto andReserve No 3. The Don Carlos line now comes in the Presidente, DoubleRobusto, Reserve No. 2 and Reserva No. 4.
Flawless - that is the only way I can describe this cigar. Even in thebox, they just look amazing and beg to be smoked. Evenly packed fromhead to foot, the torpedo cap clipped without an issue and lit like afire cracker. The reddish hued Cameroon wrapper had just a little shinefrom the oil inside - more of a calling than anything to be worriedabout. I wish I could say more but if you are looking for a cigar thatlooks as if it were a mirror image of the other - these are the ones foryou.
Fine, rich, reserved and flavorful - the Don Carlos line is somethingthat must be experienced. A mouthwatering combination of sweet and spicynotes being played over a background of cedar and leather withfluttering hints of cocoa, caramel, cinnamon and a dash of black pepperto round things out. The varying degrees of flavor, from intense to asubtle hint and back to in your face make this is cigar that truly canbe something to write home about - a 'wow' cigar if you will.
The Don Carlos is an exceptional cigar - simply beyond words good. It’seasy to see why Tom Selleck told Cigar Aficionado that his favoritesmoke is the Don Carlos. If you can afford the $10 plus price, this is acigar you could easily smoke several times a week. I cannot stressenough how dynamic or complex this cigar is - the flavors seemed tocontinually be changing in intensity and range of flavors - by far oneof the first 'wow' cigars I had ever smoked. If you are looking for acigar to test your palate, looking for an excellent cigar to add intoyour normal rotation or looking to experience your first 'wow' cigar -Arturo Fuente's Don Carlos plus a price that only Buy Discount Cigarscan offer - a box purchase is a done deal.
