While CAO has always been at the forefront of innovative and unique cigars - well with the MX2 they have entered the headlines for that category again. You may be asking, how exactly did MX2 get its name - well, it came from the use of a maduro wrapper and a maduro binder while utilizing Dominican, Honduran, Nicaraguan, Peruvian and Brazilian tobaccos in a core blend that is second to none. While this cigar may not have the lengthy history other CAO cigars have, it has also been toted as one of their most popular smokes. Enough rambling - onto the review!
Never a blemish - evenly packed, well placed cap and only the slightest bit of give near the foot while the seamless maduro wrapper holds this cigar together without issue. The head clipped easily and the foot lit with just a little dedication from a flame. When a cigar does exactly what you expect and pay for, it is really hard to find anything negative about them, so why try!?
What a healthy and enjoyable sweet maduro sensation - only a light hint of pepper here and there to offset the oak and chocolate flavors. Around the midway point the choclate sensations gave way to a light coffee and earth combination that, while it may not sound the most appealing, gave this smoke the depth and complexity it needed. Wrap this all up with a healthy dose of spice and CAO has done it again.
Even though I am not the worlds biggest maduro fan, the CAO MX2 goes out of their way to ensure that they continually are at the cutting edge and thinking outside the box when it comes to new cigar blends and when they decided to go with a maduro binder and wrapper, I honestly was not expecting much. I thought for sure that the chcoclate and 'sweet' flavors would be a bit overpowering ( I am not a huge sweets kinda guy ) but surprisingly enough the oak, coffee and semi-sweet cocoa made this a cigar I would not mind smoking on a regular basis.
