I have been smoking filtered cigars, or as some call them, little cigars, for several years. Often, fellow smokers, whether they smoke cigars, cigarettes or pipes, ask me why I smoke filtered cigars. It is as if filtered cigars are the odd man out in the smoking world, and I hope to set the record straight today.
First off, I smoke them due to variety. Just like pipe tobacco, you can get tons of different flavors, blends and varieties, but you don't have to deal with the hassle of packing a pipe, buying pipe cleaners, maintenance, etc. Not only are filtered cigars much easier to smoke in this way, but they are also a lot cheaper.
When you compare little cigars to full sized regular cigars, I think the choice is easy. Filtered cigars are MUCH MUCH cheaper. Second, there are more choices. When is the last time you saw a Black Cherry or Vanilla Churchill? Never. Also, who has 4 hours to smoke a giant cigar? I am a very busy guy, and I like to take a 5 or 10 minute smoke break and get on with my day. I smoke full size cigars, sure, but only on very special occasions or vacation, when I have the time to enjoy them. But for an every day smoke, you just can't beat the simplicity of a filtered cigar.
Finally, as far as cigarettes, again, I feel the choice is easy. More choice is a factor again, and taxes on the two products are vastly different. A pack of cigarettes can cost you $7 or $8 a pack, where as you can get a great quality filtered cigar pack for just over $2. Why smoke cigarettes? I just don't get it.
Well, I hope this post helps you understand why I do, always have, and always will prefer filtered cigars for my every day smoking.
