Hello fellow pipe smokers! Today we are trying and reviewing Dark Hawk Pipe Tobacco. I decided to try Dark Hawk because the price is unbelievably low. I just had to know, do you get what you pay for, or is this a great value pipe tobacco that I am yet to discover?
First impressions matter a lot, and in this regard, Dark Hawk Pipe Tobacco's packaging totally failed to impress me. Mostly black and white, it is drab and boring, and the big pipe on the front lacks any sense of creativity or uniqueness. Now, I do not buy pipe tobacco for a pretty package, but I have to say, I would be a bit embarrassed to pull out a package of this pipe tobacco in front of friends. It literally screams cheap and generic.
With the disappointment of the package behind me, it is time to open it up and try the pipe tobacco itself. Upon opening the package, the aroma of the pipe tobacco is not remarkable. It does not smell bad, but it lacks anything special or unique. It appears sufficiently dry, and does not seem overly irregular as far as the cut of the tobacco. So far, I am again completely unexcited by Dark Hawk Pipe Tobacco.
As for smoking the tobacco, it lit with relative ease, but did need to be relit quite often. This is always annoying, especially for me, because I dislike the taste of lighters and matches. I just want to taste my pipe tobacco! I can say the actual smoke is the best thing about Dark Hawk Pipe Tobacco, and as that is the most important thing, it is very redeeming. The smoke is not complex or exciting, but it is pleasantly mild, and burns for decent length of time.
If you are looking to save money on pipe tobacco by buying a very low-cost brand, I would say Dark Hawk Pipe Tobacco is worth a shot, but it will not "knock your socks off".
